FAQ.
How does this work?
ASW is a free online serial novel. It’s an epic Western following the life and exploits of Sophie Wilde, and is updated weekly with a new chapter. You can follow it by checking the news page for updates, joining the Facebook group, or subscribing to the RSS feed.
When does the story take place, and how historically accurate is it?
Currently, the story spans from 1852 to 1857. As to accuracy: it’s as accurate as someone with Google, Wikipedia, and a handful of library resources can make it. I do my best to research events, towns, clothing, language, weapons, transportation, and social customs while I write. Obviously, I can’t get everything right, but I do make an effort. I would say each chapter takes twelve to sixteen hours to create; with eight of them being writing and the rest being fact-checking.
When is the story updated?
Once a week, at 10 PM EST on Mondays. I usually send out notices to the Facebook group if something interrupts the schedule.
Is there any other way I can read the story?
Currently, the first and season seasons are available for free in PDF format from Lulu. When season three ends in 2011, it will be added to the online store as well.
Who is responsible for all this?
ASW is written by a blogger named Becca, who keeps an award-winning personal site at DasBecca.com. She does all the website design, illustrations, and coding as well.
Are any of the characters based on actual people?
Only one: Aidan Bourke, who is introduced in Season Three, is a legendary Dead Rabbits leader. However, facets of Aubrey’s personality were based on Brad Pitt’s portrayal of Jesse James in ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’.
Can I link to this site?
Absolutely! You can use the images in the footer to post to your Facebook or Twitter from any page, and can use the ASW logo if you’d like to link from your own blog or domain.
